A collage on Covid-19 battle
BAHRAINI artist Mayasa Al Sowaidi has created a unique collage to highlight the Covid-19 battle at an international art exhibition.
Ms Al Sowaidi used airline boarding passes, train tickets and newspapers from around the world to showcase how countries tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
To Heal The World, an international online exhibition “reflecting on mending the broken world”, was curated by Caravan, an NGO that aims to use art to build sustainable peace.
“Wherever I travel, I try to collect different kinds of paper which I used in this specific work to represent this period with the coronavirus,” she said.
“I tried to represent the idea of unity of the whole world, that’s why I used pieces of paper from all over the world,”
A total of 119 qualifying art submissions were received through a global open call and an independent jury selected 30 art works for the exhibition.
Ms Al Sowaidi’s The Identity was one among them.
The artist has taken part in the Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition as well as several ones abroad. She is a professor at the University of Bahrain, where she teaches Management and Organisational Behaviour in the college of business.
The online expo launched on June 15 will end on August 18.
